“European Basketball Week“, organized by Special Olympics North Macedonia together with Basketball Federation of North Macedonia, and with the support of United Nations Population Fund – UNFPA, on 25.11.2023 (Saturday) gathered around 100 athletes, coaches, partners, supporters, and basketball players, on one basketball court, at SC “Kale“. As part of the activities, individuals with intellectual disabilities, together with their partners in Unified teams, competed in 3X3 basketball. By actively participating in the European Basketball Week, along with FIBA and the Basketball Euroleague, Special Olympics North Macedonia called for equality and highlighted the need for equal opportunities for all.
As a culmination of “European Basketball Week“, Ms. Monika Boškoska, President of Special Olympics North Macedonia, and Mr. Pero Antić, President of Basketball Federation of North Macedonia, signed a Memorandum of Cooperation in the field of promoting inclusion through the basketball court.
“The commitment to promoting inclusivity through sports, on the field, but also more broadly is one of our daily tasks as a branch of the International Special Olympics. Through the activities we implement with athletes and by demonstrating that with a helping hand and inclusion in every sphere of society, individuals with atypical development are given the opportunity to be equal like others, we continuously expand our mission. This has been recognized by our friends from the Basketball Federation of North Macedonia, for which we are extremely grateful. I believe that in the spirit of sports and sports values, together we will fight for a more inclusive society.” – stated Monika Boškoska, President of Special Olympics North Macedonia.

With the signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation, Special Olympics North Macedonia and Basketball Federation of North Macedonia will work together on increasing the inclusion of individuals with atypical development in sports and sporting competitions, promoting a healthy lifestyle, raising public awareness about individuals with atypical development, as well as educating on topics related to these target groups.
