Skopje, 17.12.2025 year – In anticipation of the New Year holidays, the Special Olympics North Macedonia organized a New Year event in a positive atmosphere, filled with togetherness and sports spirit, where the achieved results were summarized and visions for further development were shared.
This year represents a significant milestone in the development of the organization. With the establishment of Sports Federation Special Olympics Macedonia and the registration of special sports clubs, solid foundations were laid for the systematic development of sports for people with intellectual disabilities. These processes of SOM enable better conditions for daily work, more effective support for athletes and coaches, as well as greater involvement of sports workers in creating the development strategies and policies of the federation.
The year was also marked by significant sports successes on the international stage. At the World Winter Special Olympics in Turin 2025, Macedonian athletes achieved exceptional results: Ilina Georgieva won a silver medal in the sport dance discipline, Fatmire Bajramoska and Alban Bajramoski were awarded silver medals in cross-country skiing, while Stefan Trpkovski finished in fourth place in sport dance. These results once again confirmed the dedication, courage, and love for the sport that drives the athletes of the Special Olympics.
In addition to competitive activities, regular training sessions for athletes, European Basketball Week, and a conference and training for coaches in Larnaca, Cyprus, were held throughout the year, further enhancing the professional capacities and quality of the programs.
“The past year was a year of real change and proving. We are proud of our athletes who represented us honorably on the international stage with their results, but also of the steps we have taken at the organizational level, which strengthened the foundation for long-term and sustainable development. Special Olympics North Macedonia continues to build a system in which every athlete has support, opportunity, and space to progress. We are grateful to all partners, coaches, volunteers, and supporters who are part of this joint journey towards a more inclusive society through sport.” – stated Monika Boskoska, President of Special Olympics North Macedonia.
At the New Year meeting, SOM representatives expressed gratitude to all athletes, coaches, and volunteers who continuously contribute to the achievement of the organization’s mission. At the event, plaques were also awarded to long-term partners and supporters of SOM: The United Nations Population Fund – UNFPA, “Macedonian Telekom” AD, “NLB Bank” AD Skopje, “Triglav Insurance” AD, “Lions Alpha Club” Skopje, “Sportlife” and “Motocentar”. Special thanks were expressed to “Motocentar”, as a company that has been actively supporting the work of Special Olympics for over 15 years and is a sponsor of the New Year gathering of athletes, for its support and for recognizing the importance of sport as a tool for inclusion and equal opportunities.
With optimism and strong motivation, Special Olympics North Macedonia welcomes the new year, ready for new sports successes, organizational progress, and even stronger building of an inclusive society through sport.
