Building on years of global cooperation dedicated to improving health care and vision for individuals with intellectual disabilities, Special Olympics North Macedonia and the Union of Lions Clubs North Macedonia signed a Memorandum of Cooperation and Partnership at a national level, whereby both organizations create a system to provide assistance and develop programs of great social importance for individuals with intellectual disabilities and their families in North Macedonia.
In order to enable socially important services worldwide, this step represents a continuation of the joint efforts of "Special Olympics" and "Lions Clubs International" that date back to 2001 and nurture strong national and local relationships. Through such cooperation, volunteers are encouraged, local communities are activated, and additionally, Special Olympics athletes are connected with necessary health institutions.
“Today's partnership is a significant step forward towards creating inclusive communities and society in North Macedonia. By joining forces with the Union of Lions Club – D132 - North Macedonia, we aim to increase the support needed for the social success of individuals with intellectual disabilities. We believe that through such collaborations we can collectively create positive change for our athletes and individuals with intellectual disabilities across the country. I encourage all well-meaning individuals, companies, and institutions to follow the example of "Lions Club D132" and join us in this mission” – stated Ms. Monika Boškovska, President of "Special Olympics North Macedonia".
“As a socially responsible, non-profit organization, we are committed to creating long-lasting social change. With this collaboration, we reaffirm that through joint action we can work and promote the building of a more inclusive environment for all, including individuals with intellectual disabilities." – stated the District Governor of "Lions Club D132", Ms. Beti Delovska.
The Memorandum of Cooperation covers joint actions aimed at the development and implementation of multiple programs, including the joint program "Opening Eyes", the program "Young Athletes", family health forums, "Unified Sports®" and the expansion of "Champions Lions Club".
